Crane Beach. This exclusive 18-room hotel sits high atop a cliff with a panoramic view of ocean and beach. And don't be fooled by the 'Roman' pillars surrounding the swimming pool - the hotel is not that old. (though some of the buildings do date from the 18th century). And though the look may be traditional, the amenities are right up to date. Tel (809) 423-6220 FAX (809) 423-5343
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS:
Sam Lord's Castle. A real castle in the Caribbean built by Sam Lord, an alleged pirate, who filled his home with the booty plundered from the ships he lured onto the shallow reefs nearby.
ACCESS TO BEACH:
For those who wish to go through The Crane Beach Hotel there is a charge of $5 BB ($2.50 U.S.). A path leads down from the hotel to the beach. There is a gratis entrance to the beach from the public road at the far end of Crane Beach.
QUALITY OF BEACH:
Lovely and scenic - white sand, pastel blue waters, surrounded by spectacular cliffs - yet the southeast coast, the Atlantic side, is somewhat rough for swimming.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Due to the unpredictable seas, there is a manned lifeguard tower around the mid section of Crane Beach. Swimming is not suitable for children.
